According to the article on Wikipedia, Betty Boop is more or less the Cartoon version of Singer Helen Kane. Personally I always thought Betty was based off Clara Bow, Although she too is considered an influence.
Hi, I just saw Taiya001s awful comments. Sexuality is not a bad thing & if you hide it from children & make it a taboo it can be extremely damaging & they are far more likely to grow up confused and dysfunctional. Obviously I'm not saying it's okay to let your kids watch porn, but they should learn to live and let live & not judge people around them for behaving or dressing a certain way. What a fantastic way to breed ignorance.
Dressupwho, great job by the way, this is awesome x
And hey, don't worry about those comments your getting. I've seen people make ALOT worse things dress-up game wise, and Betty Boop was not directed at children at first. (she was shown in movies theaters to all ages) she is a popular American Icon, and I'm sure children don't automatically recognize her as a "sex" icon.
Betty's not that bad, she was based upon a real woman by the name of Helen Kane, and Helen was very Sweet and did not do anything bad, Only her Scat Lyrics Boop Oop a Doop meant something Risque, and that is just why Betty Boop stole Helen Kanes fame, becuse she was more risque than Helen. Btw everything in this world is sexualised, becuse that is how this world runs
That may be so but she is not the type of character acceptable for kids. "Btw everything in this world is sexualised, becuse that is how this world run" saying this is giving in and deciding that it is okay. Just because murder occurs daily does that make it socially acceptable? NO! Keep mature things out of kids realm. It is up to us to set a standard that is beneficial for children's development. Not telling them the right way is to spiral into over-their age activities just because the media cannot act responsibly. After all they care about money more than they care about the message they send. But hey I guess living in a world where to heck with the rules is fine to some.
Would I sit my child down in front of 2 Girls 1 Cup? No.
Would I fly off the handle if they saw an attractive, healthy bodied young woman in her underwear? No.
I was brought up very sexually repressed and can assure you that shielding your children from the slightest sexual image or idea is misguided and just as damaging. Children are not going to suddenly whore themselves out for crack cocaine if the cartoon they're entertained by happens to be attractive and clad scantily. Sex is a part of life that they need to be aware of; otherwise you're just creating a situation where your nightmare will come true.
Why do you think so many college kids over do it with the booze and the parties, killing themselves? Many of them worked hard to get there and were very strictly kept. With all that new freedom before them, they glutted themselves and did more harm than small doses of alcohol exposure over their lives making booze not as taboo and glamorous.
The state of being naked is not wrong or sexual, let alone Betty Boop in her undies. Children know what they themselves look like in undies and most of the time their parents. You shielding it from children makes it taboo.
And more to the point I didn't see any "Have Sex with Betty!" button on this game. Nothing about it is telling kids to get into something they're not prepared for.
I agree with you, Murder is not acceptable, becuse people only live once and killing another human being is very wrong. Although if you must know Barbie who is a well known doll, has a seedy past herself from which i know of, and who is she aimed at? Girls. There are far more worse things for kids than Betty Boop now, which are aimed at kids, including certian Anime Series for example and besides Betty Boop has been around since 1930, and now it is 2011. I understand where your coming at, becuse Betty Boop's outfit is linked with a Garter, and her official age comes around umm... 14/16, although she started out as a dog but as her creator stated the garter became her trademark.
Betty Boop was toned down from 1934, by the hays code and had to wear longer dresses which hid her garter, and her character became boring.
To tell you the truth, Betty Boop was forgotten about from 1939, she was only re-found in the 80's so basically she became back to her trademark look from 1980 - 2011, so loads of people have looked up to her for quite a long time, why on earth should this change? Betty Boop is like the American version of Hello Kitty, they both match equal, oh and btw did you know that The Betty Boop Cartoon series was made for Children?
If you personally dont like Ms Boop, then mabey you should.t let your children watch her, or anyone you know, but i know her cartoons from 1934 (the toned down ones) to uppwards are very populer, and many people buy them on DVD for they're children to watch. Although i will stand up for Betty becuse you can tell im a fan, They're are WORSE things in the world tht can ruin a childs heart than Betty
